The Festival is starting immediately after New Year on Friday the 4th January.
Prices and Levels
.
However, you are welcome to arrive on Thursday (3rd Jan) when there is free dancing all evening and into the night, preceded by the regular one hour class at 8.00pm. The practice dance floor is open all day on Thursday and on free days during the following week of the festival.
Once again it is a 10 day festival.

This means that you can come for either all of it, both weekends, or just one weekend.

The First Weekend includes workshops and performance by
Juan Manuel Capriotti and Graciana Romeo
Rachel Greenberg and Jorge Pahl

I don't think that many people in England have come across Rachel Greenwood and Jorge Pahl.
We have alot about them on the above link to our Tutors section. But I would like to add here that they are famous for showing the ladies the special techniques for them adn therefore for the guys to know how to take care of the lady in this respect and 'show her off'.

The programme will be built up gradually on this website so that if you wish, you may email Angela on angela (then symbol for at) bylaugh.com and give some suggestions for the festival that you would like us to incorporate.

A message from Juan and Graciana, who are being joined by Rachel Greenberg and Jorge Pahl for this first part of the festival.

"We can work with TECHNIQUE TO TANGO NUEVO. We can work with the different levels you propose and prepare the people for the other part of the Festival.

How we prepare our body to get into Colgadas - Volcadas - Tomadas - Enganchadas - Sostenidas - double Ganchos -Soltadas - Boleos -
We can work with the Law of Movements and the Gravity...."God save Isaac Newton...", Axis, Ground, Embrace, Intention of Movement, Connection with the centers. Then we can start working with the music....How we explore the Tango Nuevo Music.
And finally....Improvisation:  this is, for us, "The Soul of Tango Dance"
We go into the basic tools of the Tango Dance (structure of the dance) and combine them breaking the "yeites" (repeated steps) that all dancers do without taking a decision. We train a lot to take decisions in every moment to improve our dance and make it real. Not only to repeat what the teachers tell us and accept like the truth.
Working  with the different  levels you say and so to prepare to the people for the other part of the festival. "

A phenomenal tango experience

. For anyone wishing to develop their dance into the 'cutting edge' of creativity. It is felt by many that Pablo Inza and Ismael Ludman with their partners are leading lights.

Pablo Inza has been a part of many of the great Tango Festivals of Europe and Argentina.

His arrival in England and the UK is much belated and very much welcomed.

Only Tango (eat, sleep and chill)

But perhaps the most important thing for you all is that we will be having these two couples only in the intimacy of Bylaugh. This gives everyone the opportunity to totally indulge in the creation of tango with the guidance of these two, two of the best. We very much doubt that this will be repeated in this way - but they have been invited to a future Festival at Bylaugh of course.

Timetable

We are aware that the course will start on Thursday. However, many of you have asked if it can commence on Thursday evening so that you only have to take one day off work.
This will mean 3 workshops per day, plus one on Friday night and one on Thursday night. Which is quite intensive. You are welcome to come earlier, and by popular request we might be able to spread it out more on the weekdays. Wait to hear from you all.
There will be 16.5 hours of tuition from each couple and a performance on Saturday night.
Each workshop is 1.5 hours

Pablo and Maria Workshop Class Titles

Level 1 and Level 2
Rather than use words such as Intermediate etc - we leave you to judge your level from the subject matter and your knowledge of your dance level and your workshop expectations. You might like to discuss the levels with the tutors prior or soon after the commencement of the Seminar of Workshops. But in fact, there is so much enormously valuable material at both levels that I don't think anyone could get it wrong - personally I would like to do all the classes, they look fascinating.

Level 1
1) solid basics 1 (how to feel your axis, been grounded and move relaxed in couple)
2) sacadas (for man and woman), technique and applications.
3) circular boleos, (manage the element without forcing it)
4) changes of direction, one great tool to develop your dance.

Level 2
5) solid basics 2 (how does it work the anticipation and the reaction, the spiral)
6) ganchos (for man and woman), some classics and some others...
7) colgadas and volcadas, basically let's work combing them.
8) soltadas , structure and some applications.

10) atrapadas and other contacts , some newest ideas.
11) mixing elements , a bit challenging, some combinations.

Carlos and Maria Rivarola
23 June - 6 July 2008

2 Weeks holiday

We have left the details below about the last visit of Carlos and Maria this last summer since the principals will be the same or very similar. Will edit to fit the week long holiday as soon as we have the programme.

------------------------------------------------

It is almost unbearable waiting so long each time for the return of this wonderful couple. I know, half of you have been booked since last year. It all seems so obvious when they leave - we'll be able to practice that and get it perfect we think. And in a month or two we will be ready for something else from them. But instead we start to forget the nuance, then forget a bit more and so on...... then we loose it.

But they will be back very soon. If you have not joined classes with them, then now is the time. They attend to that bit of tango which seems unteachable. There is something in the music which is a bit rough and non-classical - Carlos and Maria search for a perfection in the dance yet which has this edge. But that is me talking - that is only a part of what I think they do. Everyone finds a different thing and many things.

We should have had 5 days (ie a week) but instead we have 4 days. So only 2 to take off work if you can. One needs the 4 days if one can, to really soak it all up and relax into Bylaugh and the whole tango retreat - enjoy the place, your private room and being near to the dance floors. The food and the other dancers company in the surroundings of Bylaugh itself.

We look forward to seeing you all
