The Casanova Ball has become one of the highlights of the Bylaugh year - and especially the tango year.
It started life as our tango Christmas Ball and then turned into just a ball. It is a chance to bring all your non tango
friends to an event where they can enjoy themselves without tango, with the food and the mood, the masks and the classes. There is not only the tango milonga on one of the big floors, but on another floor the Swing era with Lindand Al introducing these dances to you all.
*Beginners. If you have never done tango before, this weekend is the perfect way to start. The approach to teaching of Muffy and Stephen is based on hearing the music and the natural way to move. Whilst one spends months and years working on these principals it is the essential way to start one's tango and to continue for at least the first few years.
Party and Dance Nights on the 21st and 22nd, with dance and other classes over the weekend during the daytime of the 22 and 23rd.
A weekend of tango workshops. From the introductory Essence of Tango for beginners and Improvers (with Stephen and Muffy), to the Intermediate Classes with Eleonora Simoes and her partner of the moment. The Swing group of dances are being taught for beginners (and improvers) - that includes the Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa - and they are all great fun and up-beat, especially with these two teaching.
It is the masks on the ball night that might make this event - hard to dance in, or navigate anyway. Some hard to eat in - strangest not knowing who is who.
The Programme
Arrive on Frid
ay if you can. Al and Linda are doing a special Balboa class - that is the Swing hold etc that comes from Tango - so we can all manage that - albeit to the funny music.
Saturday is 3 Workshops each for Swing, Int/Adv Tango and Beg/Impr Tango respectively.
Sunday is 1 Swing and 2 of each of the tango A class at Casanova 2006 workshop levels.
Food, good food too at the regular times. Tea both green and normal and often coffee too between the classes - water laid out during the classes all included in the price.
The Time-table
Eleonora and Julian - all the Higher Level Workshops
Muffy and Stephen - all the Lower Level Workshops
Al and Linda - all the Swing, Lindy and Balboa tasters.
More details later.
The Costs
Classes are £12 each (£8 per hour)
The set of 5 Essence of Tango (which is recommended as a set) is £48, ie one workshop Free.
Food is the normal discounted rate of £30 per day for dancers, although the Casanova Meal is a Special Price.
You may bring your non dancing friends to this meal - the meal itself is a great occasion and many non-dancers wish to join in the fun and the food.
Many of these onlookers are soon dancing too and having a great life as a consequence.
We are all looking forward to this years Casanova Ball.

The England Tango Festivals
The England
Tango Festivals held at Bylaugh Hall in Norfolk have been most successful and a great addition to the Tango Calendar. The first England Tango fes
tival was launched with Ezequiel Farfaro and a number of the cutting edge dancers beneath the banner of Umeboshi. This festival lasted for nearly Rivarola and Salas at Bylaugh 3 weeks and continued with such great figures as Fabian Salas with Carolina del Rivera and Carlos y Maria Rivarola. The Umeboshi Festival Pioneers
The 4th England Tango Festival will be in January headlined by Chicho Frumboli and Fabian Salas with Carolina del Rivera - and the 5th, the summer tango festival under the title banner of Tango del Bosque.
The London Tango Festivals
Past London Tango Festivals have been spectacular with many great artists, musicians and performances. This festival is very much in the tradition of the great European Tango Festivals. We understand that the 5th London Tango Festival is awaiting its date. London Tango Festival
More recently, the Extravaganza has appeared in London with mainly locally based teachers and lots of tango fun. Extravaganza
The Leeds Tango Festival
Along similar lines as the London Extravaganza and most enjoyable tango indulgence too. Leeds Tango Festival
The Edinburgh Tango Festival
The fifth edition of the UK tango festival organised by Ricardo and Jenny. A weekend of dancing, and classes with teachers from around the UK.
This wonderful festival event is known as Bailongo
The Cambridge Tango Festival
Homer Ladas and Gaia Pisauro popped over from the States to headline last year's Cambridge Tango Festival.
