fabian salas and carolina del rivero
Carolina del Rivero started dancing at the age of 6, and throughout her career she has practiced different dancing techniques. She studied at the world-famous Teatro Colon (the most renowned opera house in Latin America) and later on at the famous “Taller de Danza Contemporanea del Teatro San Martin”. She discovered the tango in 1995, and since the year 2000 Carolina dances with Fabián Salas, giving workshops and exhibitions throughout the world. She took part as a master teacher and dancer in the “Congreso Internacional de Tango Argentino” (C.I.T.A. 2001, 2002, and 2003) - the world largest annual tango event that takes place in Buenos Aires every March. Applying all her artistic knowledge from other dances, she brings to tango, style and elegance, as well as a profound understanding of the technique and dynamics of the dance, and also of the woman’s role in it. Tireless researcher and maestro, remarkable dancer and connoisseur of the secrets of tango - Fabián Salas has brought light to old beliefs and opened new ways in the conception of the dance, creating an unmistakable style of dancing the Tango. He is the vertebral column of Cosmotango®. He is acclaimed as a teacher and performer by tango lovers around the world. Fabián was a member of the original cast (1994-1995) of the award-winning (Best Musical) argentine tango show "Gotán", and also performed in the stage show "El Patio de la Morocha" (1993-1994) at the "Teatro Municipal General San Martin" in Buenos Aires. In 1997 he became one of the three principal dancers in the award-winning movie - "The Tango Lesson". Fabián Salas is the principal organizer of the Congreso Internacional de Tango Argentino (C.I.T.A.) - the worlds most important annual event, which brings together in Buenos Aires all the tango lovers, practitioners, and the most representative artists of Argentine Tango. Fabián has now created a series of instructional videos - click here for more information. "The tango is evidently, once again, a living art form, with Buenos Aires the epicenter of a cultural phenomenon. The tango remains essentially a popular musical f orm, rooted in the visceral sense of its dance; combining melodic, lyrical beauty with its unmistakable rhythmic drive. Heady and passionate, sensual and meditative, melancholic and joyful, it is identifiably Argentinean and yet, clearly, is universally accessible. The tango is as complex as its own roots and as simple as the primal impulse for two human beings to move as one." - SALLY POTTER - the creator of "THE TANGO LESSON", a joint British-French-Argentine production, which was awarded the best film of the year award at the 1997 Mar Del Plata (Argentina) International Film Festival. Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli Please click here for Chicho's Website The combination of two rare talents is what turned Chicho into one of the most outstanding dancers of our time: his musicality and his creativity. Chicho dances assuredly and sensitively to each beat and savours every second of his performance. You Tube Gustavo y Giselle Naveira GISELLE Has demonstrated her abilities as a dancer and choreographer by performing in shows such as Tango Argentino, Tango Pasión, Mariano Mores, and Los Solistas de D'Arienzo. She has performed in America, Europe and Japan, and during the five years of her residence in Spain (1992-1997) she worked intensely with the tango: creating her own ballet, founding a school and inaugurating the “Casa del Tango” (Tango House) in Sevilla. The presence and solidity of her dance are balanced perfectly with the beauty of her movements, and this ensures that her dancing is always at the highest level. GUSTAVO Dancer and internationally ranking choreographer, he is also the pioneer of a new technique of teaching the tango, now famous worldwide. After more than twenty years of experience and touring all over the world , he imparts his knowledge with conceptual clarity and a rich technique. Being an exceptional analyst and investigator, his abilities have revolutionized tango dancing towards the end of the 20th century. Those who best know the world of tango dancing also appreciate his knowledge of tango dancing history and styles which he knows how to materialize through the creativity of his improvisations. The critics in Bs. As. said: "…You could say that three stylistic tendencies contend for supremacy: Urquiza's style, Almagro's style and Naveira's style …" (Clarín 8/8/99, Buenos Aires Argentina). THE COUPLE They met, joined their capacities and found a great harmony. Together, Gustavo and Giselle have successfully performed in many festivals such as Sitges (Barcelona), Neufchateau, Oslo, Paris, Amsterdam, Hannover, Karlsruhe, Dusseldorf, Porto, Madrid, London, Basel, Zurich, Bergen, Bardolino, Padova, Genova, Fivizzano, Bologna, Buenos Aires, … etc. They have also given demonstrations in the most typical milongas of Buenos Aires, and when they are not traveling, they continue with their tango classes in the argentine capital. AND from Tangomagia, Amsterdam Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne are among the most renowned Tango teachers world-wide. They revolutionized Tango with their teaching system and are considered the great Tango innovators of today with their pioneering style. Their dance is characterized by unequalled creativeness and intensity. After touring Europe, America and Asia for many years, they have settled in Buenos Aires for over three years to be with their young family. They may have settled, but things around them in the world of Tango have not. Their thematic Tango seminars in Buenos Aires are famous, in great demand and always booked out. This year, Gustavo and Giselle Anne will start again touring the world to teach and perform and Tangomagia is very happy to welcome them back while we celebrate our second lustrum, because they celebrate too: the first Tangomagia festival in 1998 was part of their first tour together.
Luciana Valle Luciana Valle is justly famous around the world for teaching tango in a clear, powerful and energetic style. Many very experienced tango dancers with years of study from many professional teachers rank their training with Luciana as the best they can get from anyone. Skilled as both a leader and a follower, and widely experienced in the milongas of Buenos Aires, she was an early participant in the "Cochabamba 444" training sessions with Gustavo Naveira and Fabian Salas that produced the "Nuevo Tango" language now in common usage to teach tango. As a brilliant and energetic interpreter of these ideas, Luciana has gained intercontinental fame for her fantastic classes, as well as for her impressive and memorable tango performances with Alex Krebs of Portland, Oregon. An excellent teacher and dancer, Luciana has danced and performed with many of the best leaders in the world. Her teaching skills are incredible. She explains things concisely and very clear, making it simpler to perform. Luciana is both an expert leader and follower, and has won widespread recognition as the best female teacher to come out of Buenos Aires in years. She teaches with fantastic energy and exuberance, has a wonderful eye for detail, and uses descriptive movement images, making the dance make sense. Her classes focus on the structure of the dance, the technical keys to moving comfortably and expressively, and the strong connection between leaders and followers…challenging and benefiting both leaders and followers alike. Lucianas teaching is held in high regard all across North America, where she regularly tours to teach tango to a dedicated and passionate following Pablo Inza + Maria Mondino
Pablo Inza is an outstanding dancer and one of the present contemporary tango references. He developed a solid and creative dance in a permanent search to extend the limits of the tango. The thematical variety with which he constructs the movement in relations to the music, draws the attention. Excellent teacher, with great capacity for analysis, he travels the world from 1992 teaching the concepts of his dance. He is regularly invited to international tango festivals. Since 2001 he directs dance theater as well and produces (in <cityw:ston><placew:ston>Buenos Aires) the Cambalache festival (tango-theater-dance) and the well known Practica X.

María Mondino Website Maria Mondino Blogspot Some words from Maria herself - Dynamics expresses the action forces dealing with a bodies motion. As far as tango is concerned dynamics is mirrored by the music, the link between the couple, the force of motion, intensity... communication of two bodies moving at a time. Immersed in an immense and assorted universe tango has become an art expression varying according to dancers? singularity. The style I am interested in and try to develop as well as promote, is the result of a search that has been started by masters such as Chicho Frumboli, Fabian Salas and Gustavo Naveira. The idea of generating consciousness of the movement, the systematization of concepts, as well as a clear and defined pedagogy were the engines for said search. It is sometimes called ' new tango' or 'contemporary tango' and has directly rebounded on the possibility of improvisation, movements? organics and quality, the use of the most varied dynamics and a deeper interpretation with relation to the music. All this before said grants more freedom to this languages possibilities, never to forget the tango substance we find in a man and a woman embracing each other, and the connection among them and the music. And to find Pablo Inza in Buenos Aires start by clicking here. And a few extra words: Pablo Inza is a dancer with a dense and fluid style. His outstanding pedagogic methods give him the ability to express the most complex details of his dancing and have placed him among the dancers who are most actively participating in the renaissance of Argentine Tango. Pablo has an extensive background in contemporary dance and has studied and danced at the Teatro General San Martin, one of the most important theatres and centers of contemporary art in Buenos Aires and all of Argentina. He also has a broad knowledge of the performing arts having studied in great depth: art, theatre, and drama in the Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramatico. Pablo's romance with tango began in 1991 and since then, he has received acclaim throughout various communities worldwide, forming part of the most popular casts of tango festivals in Buenos Aires, Madrid, Amsterdam, Bergen, Hamburg, Laussane, and many more. He has directed and choreographed various tango shows including, 'Radio Cabulero' in Bergen, Norway, 'El Arte de Amar' in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and most recently “Metronomo”. In Buenos Aires he produces 'Festival Cambalache' (tango-dance-theatre) and the well known Practica X. La dinamia expresa la energía que moviliza un cuerpo.
Richard Manuel & Pauline Reibell See more, click on Their Website Richard has been a part of tango at Bylaugh with Eleonora Simoes for the past nearly 2 years and impressed us throughout that time with the precision of their teaching and attention to detail and the students. Richard would start the day with exercises and techniques for ones body control, and progress gradually through the tango technique to actual examples which seemed impossible to begin with, then materialised into exciting examples of possibilities for the dance. He came round everyone to ensure that they achieved it, and pushed their technique to the limit. His belief is that one can subsequently dance the simpler moves more perfectly during the milonga. With Pauline, we imagine that they will teach a combination of what has become known as salon and nuevo respectively, but we wait to see at Bylaugh. Below word from them themselves: RICHARD MANUEL His extensive researches had brought him to always extend the realms of Tango. Music as the primary core of his dance, he brings forward his findings for a most relax state of dancing where elegance meets new drawings. His teaching focuses on giving freedom to the dancers to create their own dance, working on the economy of the body and clarifying the language of leading and following.
PAU LINE REIBELL Combining her studies of Ballet, Contemporary Dance & Indian Classic Dance (Bharata Natyam -Kathak) she gives a new dimension to the tango dance with a quality of movements which mixes grace and fluidity. Through her teaching she gives a better understanding of the partnership by addressing precise details to the couple for a finer tune of communication and introduces some innovative moves which give inspiration to all. And no pictures - a good thing really. | I studied the piano and music before turning to sculpture and only turned to partner dancing when challenged to produce the perfect sculpture of two people in harmony together. Years were spent with Jive, and then Ballroom before we discovered Argentine Tango. The differences of Argentine Tango impressed - not simply the improvisation, but to be challenging each other and the music, the elasticity in the timing and those secrets imparted by the late Carlos Gavito, we feel so fortunate to have been introduced to by him and his milonguero friend the late Ricardo Vidort. We have valued the teaching of Carlos and Maria Rivarola for attempting (as did Gavito sometimes) to impart the invisible, a magic that one touches for a moment and then seeks for ever more. Then Fabian Salas and Carolina del Rivero brought us playfulness and then a sense that the most complex of moves can be effortless. Gustavo and Giselle Naveira made us feel that we were in the right place. However, it is often the teachers with lesser names who have taught us as much, or not such lesser names - Luciana Valle, Eric Jeurissen and Alex Krebs. And the list goes on - Pablo Inza, Ismael Ludman and Ezequiel Farfaro with Eugenia Parrilla and we are so lucky because so many great dancers and their partners come to Bylaugh and we benefit from everyone. But when Muffy and I teach we are looking to concentrate on that which we found so difficult when we started. Simple things like being able to hear the music and distinguish the elements of the music one could dance to and to do that naturally. Developing movements and ones dance directly from a feel for the music and so on..one does end up covering everything and arriving at the same place in the end. But this is where we start with our students and we make sure as best we can that they are enjoying the classes because we enjoy giving |

One of the few dancers in Europe to teach the original tango urquiza, Linus has found a way to convey the secrets of this pure tango without losing its essence and originality. Although a classic tango, urquiza is a modern way of thinking. It adds details to the dance and encourages improvisation with both the steps and the music. It is free of clichés – always real, never faked.
Linus makes this complex and demanding tango accessible to students. He concentrates on the quality of the movements, details and musicality - the essence of tango salon. He explores the moments between the steps: the ornaments, the details and the trucos (tricks), while never leaving the fundamental principles.
His teaching is tailored to suit the needs of his students, allowing them to develop their own expression of the urquiza steps. However, every lesson has three focuses: the steps, the music and the technique.
Dancing style
Linus dances an elegant and fluid tango that combines delicacy and precision with musicality. His dance is full of surprises and intricate refinements, an expression of the subtle variations of melody and rhythm of the tango. Grounded in excellent technique, he creates space for the urquiza details - making the difficult movements look easy.
Linus sees the intimate dialogue between the couple as an essential of aspect in the dance. And he is constantly exploring the possibilities that exist when two people work together to interpret the music.
Juan and Graciana See where they are today: Juan and Graciana's Schedule
Juan Ma nuel Capriotti and Graciana Romeo, propose an integral work of the person where movement and feeling is transformed into a single thing: TANGO. The work begins with “Propedéutica of the Dance” for the initiation to the tango, the method is based on the infantile games and the observation of how the daily movements were developed. It means to coordinate the movements for a better development and understanding of the motor capacity. The result would be a body with possibilities, which means not to train it like an object of being able, but of feeling it truely free. To dance is to allow itself to show with the body all a series of sensations that motivates the musical sense and the ductility of your partner. It is necessary to separate the dance, as personal manifestation and the dance like ability and skill. Our objective in the learning process is to go a little beyond the step, the figure or the choreography, and to be able to recognized de basics tools of this dance to be albe to do them with the compass of the music. Each DANCER MUST CREATE HIS OWN STYLE. The more authentic and personal his tanguero walk is, the more credible will be his speech. DEVELOPMENT OF CLASSES First we begin with an integral work of Recognition of the Basic Tools of the tango-dance so that each person, beyond the dance level in which it is, can enjoy a good and pleasure dance. The primary target is to gradually obtain an important degree of connection between the two dancers (leader and follower); and then the greater possible coherence between the movements that we generated and the music that we are listening. In this way we freed ourselves of the heavy structures that make the dance something rigid and boring; while we will be approached to an ideal state of dance that we called Instantaneous Creation in Movement in which improvisation, fluidity, freedom, pleasure and imagination become one to enjoy this magic dance. Ismael Ludman and Sonia Deidda
Ismael Ludman is an artist. He explores the possibilities of tango with the new music, and uses these techniques for the old music that he also loves so much. Whilst dancing, he receives the woman sometimes, and challenges her at others. He has explored tango with his students here at Bylaugh since his first visit with Eleonora Simoes in November 05). And the extraordinary thing about Ismal e is that he shares these 'searchings and experimentation with his students, thus creating the most valuable way for students to learn. He is at the cutting edge of tango development. This development is as appropriate on the social dance floor as it is in performance. Everything he does is clearly Tango, but he has produced a new interpretation derived from his free experiment with music and movement. He continues relentlessly to search for new elements in the dance and for ways to perfect the usage of the elements discovered. More (different author) about Ismael Ludman of Buenos Aires. He brings us one of the most contemporary forms of tango: minimal form, rich music, expressive movement and having met Eleonora in London......decided to play tango together. Ismael is a confident, eloquent and accomplished teacher. Based in Buenos Aires, his teaching spots include the well known Centro Cultural Borges. He is actively involved in new age tango performances and other artistic projects. Pictures - The 3 above. Ismael and Sonia in Ibiza and Berlin (guess which is where) Picture - bottom left. Ismael teaching with Maria Mondino in 2007 in the Orangery at Bylaugh | Ismael Ludman is an important benchmark in the wave of Tango Dance revival. From an eclectic backround, having studied from the most traditional towards a more modern, improvised Tango, Ismael seeks a constant synthesis between popular dance and more universal forms of corpoal expression. His dance, full of mystery, has a srong focus in musicality, expressiveness and relaxation. Sonia Deidda reaches Tango after having been trained in corporal expression through gymnastics. Her years studying theatre make her a very open, expressive and original artist. Her Tango is made up with a strong corporal conscience, aided by her passion for Yoga, to expand the limits of her movements and to help students to grow within their possibilities. Full of presence, sensitive and docile, her dance is pure charm and beauty. Together they are a young, freah, original and powerful couple. Covering a range of movements which takes and reinterprets from tradition towards a constant innovation of forms and methods , in search of greater liberty and possibilities of communication. Fun, dynamic and attentive instructors. Magical, magnetic and avant-garde pe rformers.
Homer and Cristina Ladas Homer and Cristina started their tango obsession long before the met each other. Each with over 10 years of experience emphasizing a fusion of social tango ideologies... As teachers they are committed to creating a positive class environment where small epiphanies can & do occur in their students. It has been said, on more than one occasion, that few dancing couples improvise with such skill, personality, and fluidity of movement. Married since May 2002 they continue to explore deeper facets of their relationship to each other and to tango.
Homer and Cristina Ladas Links to their website in the USA Gonzalo Orihuela and Solange Chapperon. Two dancers from Buenos Aires who also live and work in Germany Their workshops aim not only to give the student some new movements, but knowledge with clear concepts, effective training and the basis for individual creation. Their shows and performance combine traditional tangos with the addition of less conventional movement; combining elements of other disciplines such as modern dance and theatre. That is, using the basis of tango but with a new message. These may not be traditional shows; they have been announced as tango phoenetics, the language of tango. However, both the performance and the teaching stem from, and involve the very basis of pure traditional tango and its music. Gonzalo on Gonzalo AND Gonzalo Orihuela and Solange Chapperon A hypnotic couple, also beloning to the ‘new generation’ of dancers in Buenos Aires that are mostly seen at practicas like Villa Malcolm and Practica X. From their deep research in tango and their dance and theatre background they forged a style that is refined and exotic, rich in colours and shades. Metaphors fill the choreographies and tradition is constantly represented in their improvisation. Organisers of "CETA" (Experimental club of Tango Art in Buenos Aires) and directors of "Resurreccion Urbana", a remarkable tango nuevo and fusion play. A committed and accessible couple, full of beauty. Organized and didactic teachers, they offer creative, structured and fun lessons. Besides their classes at Tangomagia, they will do a very special performance created together with a video artist, called ‘Itango’: Tango taken to interact with a computer and the lights it decides to reflect. An interactive dance floor which chooses to dance next to the dancers that step on it. Together they offer a dance of movement and lights that find the way to understand each other to perform one unique dance: the "Itango" Video dance classes For the 10th Tangomagia festival Gonzalo, Solange and Tangomagia organise a project named ‘video dance classes‘, in which students can learn to plan, shoot and edit a performance. Beata Maia Gellert All about Beata Maia, a young lady venturing out from Warsaw, Poland to teach tango elsewhere in Europe; to enjoy tango with us all and bringing .......
her sparkle. Maia will be sending us her bumf in English which she speaks as perfectly as one could dream of .... soon. In the meantime, here's her website (in Polish). Now some words have arrived from Warsaw ... "I believe that any dance is a means of expression, that is we dance to express what we feel inside ourselves. We dance to let go, we dance to share, we dance to create and we dance to destroy. We dance for ourselves and for each other both at the same time. When in public we also dance for others, for those who observe. I teach tango through introducing to people their own bodies so that they can become aware of them. Getting to know one's body and what it can do, exploring and developing it is what I consider to be effective and fruitful learning. Throughout my teaching there is always a focus on body awareness, musicality and the connection and communication between the partners. I always make the journey to the very fundamentals of tango - from ones own body, the other body and their mutual connection with the music and the floor.
